When it's very hot in summer, you experience a cooling sensation in the mine, as the temperature inside the mountain is constantly 12 degrees Celsius. But the silver mine is also ideal as a bad weather program for families, couples, groups and clubs - you will definitely stay dry in the mountain.

An experience for children of all ages

“The mother of all mines”, the largest silver mine of the late Middle Ages, is located in Schwaz in Tyrol. Up to 10,000 miners searched for and found silver and copper here 500 years ago, making the city of Schwaz the largest mining metropolis in the world! During a classic tour (duration approx. 90 minutes) in the silver mine, you gain a fascinating insight into the rough life of the Schwaz miners at the time of the silver boom in the Middle Ages.

85% of the silver mined worldwide came from this mine, which rises into the mountain. After the 800 meter deep entrance with the mine railway, a breathtaking world underground awaits the approximately 40 visitors. You follow in the footsteps of the miners and experience the hardships they had to endure 500 years ago to mine copper and silver. One of the highlights is the famous Schwaz waterwheel, which was installed in 1556 to raise the mine water - it was considered a true engineering marvel at the time.

Asthmatics and allergy sufferers find the optimal conditions for lung regeneration in the silver mine. The air is absolutely pollen-free and regenerates the respiratory tract.

In the attached restaurant “Knappenkuchl” you can enjoy Tyrolean and international delicacies after the exciting mining experience.

Parking

There are two large parking spaces just 50 m from the entrance.

Opening Hours

High season: May – September daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.*

Low season: October – April daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.*

The tours take place every 40 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of visitors. Online bookings are possible up to 24 hours before the desired appointment. Tickets purchased online must be exchanged for official tickets at the cash desk 20 minutes before the booked date.
