What does happiness feel like?
This is an easy way to explain your child's feelings.
The child stomps on the floor angrily, screams in your face and then the slapping hand comes along. You want to let the child understand that you recognize their anger and how they can deal with it. But what if children often don't know exactly what they are feeling?
We have found a relatively easy way to help children clearly understand and name their feelings. This works on the principle that you feel something in your body at that moment.
“Feelings have always been something for the very brave.”
If you feel it in your chest, then it is fear.
If you feel it in your gut, then it's intuition.
If you feel it in your whole body, then it is happiness.
If you feel it in your head, then it is anger or anger.
If you feel it in your muscles, then it's panic.
If you feel it on your face, it's shame.
If you feel it in your mouth, it's disgust.
If you feel it in your throat, then it's sadness.
Try it out and you will be amazed at how quickly the children learn to understand their own bodies and emotions.
