Hainzenberg gold mine

Experience the gold adventure up close.

Goldschaubergwerk Hainzenberg

There is a chest of gold hidden at the end of the rainbow. What child doesn't dream of finding their own gold? In the Hainzenberg gold mine, the great adventure of past centuries about gold mining is presented in an exciting way.

Experience in any weather

The 2-hour tour begins at the Hochzeller Käsealm, about 3 km above Zell am Ziller towards Gerlos. From there you take the Gold Express (wagons pulled by a tractor) down the winding road. Alternatively, we can also travel this route on foot. The first stop is at the Maria Rast pilgrimage church, where a little story is told and you can visit the church. Then we continue to Zell am Ziller, where the Gold Express is parked. After about 5-10 minutes on foot you reach the entrance to the tunnel of the gold mine, where everyone is provided with a helmet and a coat. Your own sturdy shoes are recommended! Inside the tunnel, a multimedia presentation provides information about 350 years of culture in this almost forgotten industry. At the end you come out in the worker's hut and can still purchase gems. Then it goes back to the Käsealm with the Gold Express.

Hochzeller Cheese-Alm

A cheese dairy where mainly cheese as well as bacon, smoked sausages and schnapps are produced according to traditional recipes from the past, which can be tasted during the tour. Adjacent to the Hochzeller Käsealm is an alpine hut that has been rebuilt true to the original over 150 years ago - this houses a small museum where old equipment is lovingly restored and displayed in a functional state.

Gold panning camp

"Gold is the sun of metals." Joseph Joubert

Gold panning in a safety trough, also known as a gold pan, is one of the oldest processes for extracting gold particles. In the gold panning camp on Hainzenberg, the gold-containing ore from the mountains is filled with water into a pan, given a slight rotating motion, and the gold is sorted out. It's an experience for the whole family to pan for your own gold.

Animal park

Immediately adjacent to the Hochzeller Käsealm there is an extensive animal enclosure with local mountain game, small game and many other small animals! At the end of the circular route there is a very nice playground.

Food

Next to the cash desk there is a kiosk where there is a small selection of food. Most of the places are outdoors, but there is also a bar and a regulars' table inside.

Parking

There are plenty of parking spaces directly in front of the Käsealm and cash desk building.
